描述：Cells are solitary, cylindrical to oblong, 5-11 µm in length. One to three parietal plastids are present. Cells often occur in small groups. Reproduction occurs by autospores and zoospores. Monallantus has been reported from British Columbia, Minnesota lakes, bogs, and fens, an acid bog lake in Michigan, pools in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and an organically rich pond in Arkansas.
